1GB or 512MB?

I want to put in more RAM to my computer. I have a 512 MB DIMM module and nearby are four slots. Do I have to attach 512 MB modules (so they match) or can I add a 1GB module near my 512 MB module. Or since it's removeable, can I remove the 512 MB module and replace it with a 1GB module, our would I lose adjectives the programs my computer is running. Maximum memory is 4096 MB.

1GB or 512MB?

yes you can mix and match sizes of knock against sticks providing they are the same speed,

but put the biggest (1 gig) contained by the first slot the one with the 512 surrounded by now. and the 512 within the second slot, this will give you 1.5 gigs of memory
you can put in a 1gb module

but if you mother board supports ddr

you will not be running in ddr mode since both mem modules necessitate to be same size. parity and speed and usually surrounded by slot 0 and slot 2

btw xp supports only 2gb

vista 3gb
Just donate a 1GB with your 512MB. The more RAM you hold the more faster your PC will be. I'd put 2GB of RAM if I were you , since window vista requries at LEAST 1GB of RAM.
Just add a second 512MB stick beside the same specs as the existing one for 1GB total. XP assumed.
Do doesn`t matter what you feel close to. All of the scenarios you suggested would work fine. The best solution is to simply tag on the 512 MB into a secondary slot. This would hand over you 1.5 GB of RAM, more then adequate for most tasks.

Also RAM is random access memory, and unacquainted to store data when the computer is bad; the hard drive perform that function instead.
